Theatre Classes — Term 2, 2021
Theatre Classes are taught by Moreton Bay Youth Theatre Co.’s passionate tutors with the aim of teaching students the fundamentals of theatre performance. In 2021, MBYTC will offer exciting new classes that provide well-rounded training for children and teens from all performance backgrounds and with varying levels of experience.
Our Musical Theatre classes focus on the three disciplines essential to any triple threat performer- singing, dancing, and acting. Students will be guided through a program that develops vocal technique, dance skills across a variety of dance types, and fundamental acting skills such as characterisation and connection. These skills will be imbedded within specific exercises and games as well as in the process of learning both vocal and acting repertoire. The last class of each term is open to parents for viewing as students demonstrate their learning. All students from these classes are then invited to implement their skills in one of our school holiday workshop programs and to participate in a full-length show with other young performers.
Our Acting classes focus on the fundamental acting elements for stage performance. Students will develop skills in safe and effective voice production, developing character, ensemble work, mime and improvisation, and script analysis and interpretation. These classes combine acting exercises with games, challenges, and scene work designed to develop strong acting technique in young performers. The last class of each term is open to parents for viewing as students demonstrate their learning. Furthermore, this year MBYT is opening a ‘drama festival’ class where students will work on a one act play to tour and compete in the festival circuit later this year. This class is by invitation only and students who wish to be invited must already be enrolled in the Acting classes. Lastly, all students from these classes are invited to implement their skills in one of our school holiday workshop programs and to participate in a full-length show with other young performers.
